Smart launches prepaid eSIM

PLDT’s wireless unit, Smart Communications, has introduced the Smart Prepaid eSIM, said to be the first prepaid eSIM in the Philippines. The eSIM eliminates the need for a physical SIM card, allowing mobile users to easily access local data, calls, and text services.

To activate the eSIM, customers simply scan the Smart Prepaid eSIM QR code, which contains their account number. The eSIM can be received in either printed or digital form, providing flexibility and convenience. With the eSIM, users don’t have to worry about losing or damaging their physical SIM card or having a SIM slot in their device.

The Smart Prepaid eSIM is especially useful for those who want to switch between multiple accounts or SIM profiles on a single device, such as Apple device users. It is also beneficial for foreign tourists and returning Filipino overseas, as they can quickly activate local mobile services without the hassle of swapping SIM cards. The eSIM allows tourists to make calls and send text messages at more affordable local rates compared to roaming rates.

Free data

Previously available only to postpaid subscribers, the Smart Prepaid eSIM now enables more Filipinos to enjoy its benefits. Compatible with eSIM-capable devices, such as Apple, Google, Huawei, and Samsung devices, tablets, and smartwatches, the eSIM also offers up to 21 GB of free data. By activating and registering the eSIM and downloading the Smart GigaLife App, subscribers can claim this free data.

Activating the Smart Prepaid eSIM is simple. Apple users can scan the QR code using their phone’s camera or add the eSIM under “Cellular Plans” in their phone’s settings. Android users can scan the QR code through the “SIM Card Manager” in their phone’s settings. All subscribers are required to register their eSIM on the Smart website.
