Sophos has announced that Kris Hagerman is stepping down as CEO and will continue as an adviser until April 1, 2024. Joe Levy, a nearly 30-year veteran of cybersecurity, has been appointed as the new president and acting CEO, effective immediately.

Hagerman, who led Sophos through significant growth since 2012, expressed confidence in Levy’s ability to lead the company forward.

“Joe and I have worked closely together for over nine years, and he has been pivotal in leading our product, services, and technology initiatives that have underpinned Sophos’ growth,” said Hagerman. “He has my full and enthusiastic support.”

Cybersecurity-as-a-service

Levy, who has been with Sophos for nine years, brings extensive experience in cybersecurity innovation and a deep understanding of attacker behaviors. He has played a pivotal role in transforming Sophos into a global cybersecurity-as-a-service provider, overseeing initiatives that have expanded the company’s customer base and product offerings.

In his new role, Levy aims to further grow Sophos as a global cybersecurity leader, with a focus on securing organizations of all sizes, particularly midmarket and smaller entities increasingly targeted by cyber threats. He emphasizes the importance of working closely with partners, including Managed Security Providers (MSPs) and cyber-focused channel partners, to enhance cybersecurity defenses worldwide.

“Our research indicates that midmarket and smaller organizations are increasingly in the crosshairs of attackers,” Levy said. “The interconnectedness of the modern world, with these under-protected segments as its critical substrate, leaves us all exposed to direct or indirect risk.”
