Straits Interactive, a company that offers end-to-end governance, risk, and compliance solutions, introduces Capabara, a Capability-as-a-Service platform designed to leverage the potential of generative AI (GenAI) to support business objectives in the Philippines.

Capabara offers three key services — AI Assistant, Knowledge System, and Capability Management — aimed at enabling organizations to effectively utilize GenAI in their workplaces.

“We envision the Capabara Capability-as-a-Service to be a platform ecosystem meticulously designed for the AI Business Professional,” said CEO Kevin Shepherdson. “These are the trailblazers equipped to harness generative AI tools, create value, and integrate AI ethically, responsibly, and effectively within their organizations.”

With Capabara AI Assistant, enterprises can customize prompts to develop unique GenAI utilities suited for in-house applications. This feature empowers organizations to tailor workflow activities powered by AI, enhancing productivity and efficiency across all operational facets.

Capabara suite of services

Built on the technology stack of Microsoft Azure OpenAI’s Large Language Model (LLM) in collaboration with Rackspace, the Capabara Knowledge System is introduced as the industry’s first AI Data Protection Officer (DPO) Assistant. This solution acts as a resource for organizations seeking to govern personal data and align with data protection laws, including the Philippine Data Protection Act (DPA), with support from consultants at Straits Interactive.

Capabara Capability Management enables organizations to translate AI recommendations into actionable tasks that can be documented, implemented, and reviewed. This tool is designed to help organizations enhance performance, mitigate risks, and achieve compliance objectives.

Capabara Capability Management lets organizations convert AI recommendations into real-world, executable tasks that can be documented, implemented, and reviewed. This tool is primed to help organizations enhance their performance, mitigate risks, and reach compliance objectives.

In the Philippines, one of the pioneering organizations that use Capabara is the Follosco Morallos & Herce (FMH) law firm. Represented by partner Atty. Rachel Follosco, FMH said AI has streamlined the research process of the lawyers. Leveraging Capabara enables lawyers to focus more on other important tasks because research can now only be done within minutes.

Use GenAI with caution

However, Straits Interactive cautions organizations about cloned GenAI apps that may compromise corporate data integrity. Research conducted by the Data Protection Excellence Centre, Straits Interactive’s research arm, found concerning disparities in privacy practices among such apps. For instance, while 46% of apps assert on their download pages not to collect any Personally Identifiable Information (PII), the App Permissions Section reveals vulnerabilities in data protection, with 68% of apps claiming no third-party PII sharing but relying on third-party APIs like OpenAI’s.

Also, 42% of apps admit that once user PII is collected, the data cannot be deleted. Despite these privacy concerns, many of these apps enjoy high user ratings, suggesting a potential lack of awareness regarding data privacy risks. Notably, several of these apps feature prominently among the top free productivity apps and gross revenue rankings.
