A recent report titled “Beyond the Headphones: The Portrait of a Podcast Listener as Filipino” discovered a significant rise in podcast consumption among internet-connected Filipinos.
The report, a collaboration among the country’s three largest podcast networks, The Pod Network, Anima Podcast, PumaPodcast, and socio-cultural research firm The Fourth Wall, indicates that over 17 million internet-connected individuals aged 16-64 in the Philippines listen to podcasts weekly. This figure represents 19.8% of the internet-connected population within this age range, marking a 2.6% increase from 2023.
“Our research has found that the majority of podcast audiences tend to listen to podcasts after work or school hours, when commuting, or while doing household chores,” explained John Brylle Bae, research director, The Fourth Wall. “This pattern is in line with global trends where podcasts serve as a preferred source of entertainment and information.”
Bae noted that audiences choose podcasts for their ability to seamlessly integrate into daily routines, offering a unique mix of engaging and informative content.
The study, which surveyed hundreds of respondents, highlights the growing popularity of podcasts in the country, which boasts an internet-connected population of approximately 86.98 million. While traditional platforms like the Internet and social media remain prevalent, podcasts have emerged as a favored information source, surpassing online video streaming sites, online news portals, and television.
According to the report, the surge in podcast popularity can be attributed to factors such as accessibility and convenience, with respondents prioritizing these qualities when choosing their media platforms. The majority of podcast listeners in the Philippines are millennials or Generation Y, residing predominantly in urban areas like Greater Manila.

The report also revealed the most popular podcast genres among Filipino listeners, with comedy leading the pack followed by personal development, culture, and politics. This preference underscores the audience’s inclination toward engaging yet substantial content.
The findings of the study were presented at the “Podcasts, Pizza, and Pints” event, which convened industry professionals from the advertising, marketing, and public relations sectors. Discussions at the event explored the report’s implications and how brands can effectively leverage podcasts in their marketing strategies.
“We are at an intersection in the evolution of media consumption in the Philippines,” said Alan Fontanilla, CEO of The Pod Network. “As more Filipinos tune into podcasts for their unique blend of entertainment and information, we see an invaluable opportunity for creators and advertisers alike to engage with an audience that values depth and accessibility.”
The report forecasts a continued expansion of podcast listenership, particularly in rural areas. This trajectory underscores the evolving landscape of media consumption in the country, positioning podcasts as a dominant platform for entertainment and information dissemination.
