Visa has introduced new tools that use artificial intelligence (AI) to help make online shopping safer and more convenient.
The financial services firm launched Visa Intelligent Commerce and Visa Pay, both designed to support the growing use of digital wallets and e-commerce. The tools use AI-powered systems and tokenization to protect user data and improve shopping experiences.
“The continuously growing digital payment sector in the Philippines makes it a prime environment for technological innovation, one that harnesses AI for the benefit of the digital Filipino business owner and consumer,” said Jeffrey Navarro, country manager, Visa Philippines.
Visa Intelligent Commerce allows developers and engineers to access Visa’s payment network to build new commerce solutions. It provides APIs and a commercial partner program to help AI platforms use Visa’s technology securely and at scale.
Visa Pay is designed to allow users to connect to any participating digital wallet to any merchant that accepts Visa, both in physical stores and online. The service is being launched across Asia Pacific.
“Imagine the possibilities that AI brings to everyday life for Filipino digital consumers: from automatically ordering your favorite meals on Grab before you even think of it, to alerting you about the next big K-pop concert and arranging all your travel plans,” said Poojyata Khattar, head of Product for Regional Southeast Asia at Visa.

Data protection
The use of AI in digital payments means large amounts of data must be processed, raising questions about privacy and security. Visa highlighted how tokenization helps protect user information.
Tokenization replaces real card numbers with unique, encrypted tokens specific to a user’s device. When a customer makes a purchase, their actual card number is not shared. Instead, the system uses a temporary code that cannot be reused or stolen easily.
“This token is exclusively linked to the specific user and device, making unauthorized use virtually impossible,” Khattar said.
Visa also uses dynamic AI models that analyze transaction patterns to offer personalized recommendations without revealing actual transaction details. These features are optional, and users can choose to turn them off.
“The entire system is designed to provide a more intelligent digital experience while prioritizing the customer’s data security and privacy,” Khattar said.
Navarro added that Visa works closely with industry groups and follows local regulations to ensure safe and responsible use of technology.
“Our goal is to develop a comprehensive, compliant approach that can be widely adopted,” he said.
