Content management system WordPress.com has launched a new AI website builder designed to make creating a website easier for users, whether they are small business owners, freelancers, or hobbyist bloggers. The tool uses AI to build a ready-made website in minutes based on a user’s description of their idea.
The process starts by telling the builder what kind of website is needed. Users then sign in to their WordPress.com account — or create a free one — and the AI builds the site. The result includes layouts, text, and images, which users can adjust manually or through a chat box.
“We wanted to take the guesswork out of launching a website,” WordPress said in an announcement. “This builder helps users go from idea to finished site by simply describing what they want.”
The tool is available for new WordPress.com websites only. While it does not support e-commerce sites or advanced custom features yet, it is aimed at users who want a quick and functional website without building everything from scratch.
No experience required
WordPress said the tool is especially useful for people who don’t have design or coding experience. Entrepreneurs and freelancers, in particular, may benefit from the time saved by the AI, as it allows them to focus more on their content and less on setup.
Unlike basic template generators, the WordPress AI builder adapts to user input to create a more tailored result. Users are encouraged to provide a clear description of their site’s purpose, name, and content. This helps the builder deliver better results. Font styles, colors, and layouts can be edited later.
“We believe AI can help lower the barrier for anyone who wants a professional-looking website,” the company said.
Limited free AI prompts
New users receive 30 free AI prompts. These can be used to create pages, add images, or insert contact forms. With a WordPress.com hosting plan, users can unlock unlimited prompts and get a free domain for one year.
Once satisfied with the design, users can go live immediately or wait until the site is ready to launch. Those with hosting plans can also return to the builder anytime through the dashboard.
For those wanting more control, traditional WordPress tools and advanced features are still available, especially under the Business plan and higher.
