The short-form video platform TikTok recently unveiled Year on TikTok 2024, a year-end report spotlighting the trends, moments, and creators that shaped the platform. The report highlights how TikTok empowered individuals, businesses, and communities through creativity and connection.

Filipino brands and entrepreneurs embraced TikTok as a space for authenticity and growth. TikTok Shop emerged as a vital tool for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), blending engaging content with seamless e-commerce. This innovation enabled businesses to connect with wider audiences and fostered economic growth.

Josefina’s Homemade Food, a canteen in Bicol, used TikTok Shop to transform regional dishes into national favorites. Through live selling and creative storytelling, they showcased the distinct flavors of Bicol to households across the country. Alta Philippines, a Marikina-based shoe brand, also thrived on TikTok, promoting Filipino craftsmanship while creating livelihoods for veteran shoemakers and senior citizens. These success stories underscore TikTok’s potential to drive meaningful economic change.

“In the Philippines, TikTok has become more than just a platform — it’s a space where Filipinos celebrate their creativity, culture, and entrepreneurial spirit,” said Bea Bautista, head of Communications for TikTok Philippines. She emphasized the platform’s role in promoting regional talent, spotlighting local products, and fostering cultural pride.

Creators have used TikTok to share unique stories and build communities. Makeup trends like the Asoka Makeup Challenge and food content by creators such as Icoy Rapadas brought new dimensions to entertainment. Beyond lifestyle content, TikTok became a hub for advocacy. Licensed pharmacist Arshie Larga addressed health issues, TV personality Kim Atienza promoted environmental sustainability, and organizations like LoveYourself PH advocated for HIV awareness.

TikTok also played a significant role in music discovery. Emerging Filipino artists like Lola Amour and Maki gained international attention, connecting with fans and reshaping the landscape of Original Pilipino Music (OPM).

Educators and institutions turned to TikTok to make learning accessible. Communities such as #TeachersOfTikTok brought classroom lessons to life and inspired millions.

TikTok’s Year on TikTok 2024 highlights how a little creativity on the platform can spark lasting impact, driving Filipino culture, advocacy, and entrepreneurship to new heights.
