AI (artificial intelligence) expert Dr. Vivienne Ming believes that a generation skilled in creativity and problem-solving should also be empowered with soft skills. This is one of the highlights of her talk hosted by Hyper Island APAC, a creative business school.
Dr. Ming highlighted a growing divide between routine and creative economies in her talk “Building People for the Unknown” held at the Ayala Museum, which was aimed to offer insights into AI’s impact and how organizations can adapt to the technology.
“While knowledge is important, we moreso need a generation of creatives, explorers, and problem solvers — a generation that can do amazing things with amazing tools,” said Dr. Ming. “It is the craftsmen using the tools, and not the tools that allow us to solve the world’s problems.”

Dr. Ming emphasized the necessity of emotional intelligence, resilience, and creativity in the AI era. She advocated for meta-learning skills and the significance of preparing individuals for an uncertain future, crucial for stability in society.
Hyper Island
The hybrid event attracted participants from Europe and Asia, with face-to-face sessions in the Philippines, Singapore, and Vietnam. Dr. Ming, joining virtually from New York, paved the way for panel discussions. The Philippines’ segment, moderated by Peachy Pacquing, managing director, Hyper Island APAC, featured industry leaders discussing AI’s effects on sectors like business process outsourcing (BPO), technology, and creativity.
The discussions covered challenges, opportunities, and ethical considerations as AI increasingly integrates into work and life. Aligning with Hyper Island’s mission, the event stressed lifelong learning and foundational development, utilizing AI as an enhancer, not a sole problem-solving tool.
Earlier this year, Hyper Island expanded into the Philippines as part of its global outreach in Asia. Known for challenging conventional learning, its programs focus on empowering individuals and organizations to thrive in an ever-changing world.
