Alibaba’s DingTalk, a workplace communication platform, has been revamped with the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) agents, including third-party offerings. The move aims to bolster efficiency and productivity within the platform.

Alibaba unveiled the upgraded DingTalk AI Assistant, equipped with the ability to gather information from various sources, including video and images. This enhancement enables users to engage with the platform in a more versatile and intuitive manner.

Introducing AI agents opens up opportunities for Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) businesses and individual developers. These agents, functioning similarly to chatbots but with expanded capabilities, can execute tasks ranging from business analysis to travel planning, both within and beyond the DingTalk ecosystem.

“We expect to see the emergence of a vibrant commercial marketplace and a flourishing ecosystem based on AI agents,” said Ye Jun, president of DingTalk.

DingTalk now boasts a marketplace hosting over 200 AI-powered agents, tailored to cater to diverse industry needs and cross-application integration.

With DingTalk’s AI Assistant becoming multimodal, users can process information in various formats, enhancing work efficiency and learning. The AI Assistant, powered by Alibaba Cloud’s Qwen-VL model, can comprehend and extract data from images and videos, enabling functionalities like subtitles generation and image translation.

DingTalk, with over 700 million users globally, is swiftly adapting to this trend. Since its introduction in April 2023, DingTalk AI Assistant has been adopted by over 2.2 million corporations, including 1.7 million monthly active enterprises, showcasing a rapid uptake of AI capabilities within the platform.
