In response to the growing threat of cyber fraud in the Philippines, the Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) is set to host the “BPI Cybersecurity and Consumer Protection Conference 2024.” Scheduled for July 31 at Fairmont Makati, the event aims to address the escalating cyber threats and promote robust cybersecurity measures in an increasingly (artificial intelligence) AI-driven world.

The conference, themed “Securing Consumer Trust and Fortifying Cyber-Resilience in an AI World,” will emphasize a multi-stakeholder approach to cybersecurity. According to BPI, the Philippine National Police reported a rise in cybercrime cases from 13,890 in 2022 to 21,300 in 2023, highlighting the urgency of such initiatives.

“We are fully aware that cyber threats are getting more sophisticated these days,” said TG Limcaoco, president and CEO of BPI. “It is therefore critical to be two steps ahead to address cyber scams and increase awareness of Filipinos about these illicit online activities.

Limcaoco highlighted the need for comprehensive strategies and collaboration to strengthen cybersecurity and consumer protection amid the advancements in artificial intelligence.
