Visual creation platform Canva has introduced two new AI features to make design and content creation more seamless: a deep research connector with ChatGPT and the Canva Model Context Protocol (MCP) Server.
These tools embed Canva’s creative suite directly into widely used AI platforms, allowing users to brainstorm, create, and refine designs within the same conversation. The integration allows AI assistants to securely access and use a user’s design history to generate relevant, on-brand content without switching tabs or searching for files.
“We are embedding Canva directly into the AI tools people use every day so they can brainstorm, create, and publish content faster,” said Anwar Haneef, general manager and head of Ecosystem at Canva. “This is a major step in our vision to make the complex simple and build an all-in-one AI workflow that’s secure and accessible to all.”
The ChatGPT connector links Canva projects to OpenAI’s latest models, giving context-aware answers and creative suggestions grounded in the user’s work. For example, marketers can prompt ChatGPT to summarize campaign reports, extract key messages from brand guides, or draft launch plans using their existing Canva materials.
The MCP Server goes further by allowing any AI assistant to access a user’s Canva workspace, including templates, creative tools, and files in real-time. This enables AI agents to generate complete designs, autofill charts, adjust branded templates, and even import documents directly from a link.
Privacy and security remain central to the rollout. Canva Shield, the company’s trust and safety framework, protects all user data and interactions.
The MCP Server already supports one-click integration with ChatGPT and Salesforce’s Agentforce, with more AI tools expected to follow. Canva said these updates aim to make professional design and content creation more efficient and accessible.
