Technology company Cisco has exceeded its goal to positively impact one billion lives, a year ahead of schedule. This achievement reflects a concerted effort driven by technology, partnerships, and a commitment to an inclusive future.
In 2016, Cisco’s CEO Chuck Robbins set the ambitious goal to reach one billion people by 2025. The company attributes its success to a global network of partners, the support of the Cisco Foundation and Networking Academy, and the dedication of its employees.
Through investments in nonprofits and initiatives like the Networking Academy, Cisco has empowered underserved communities with technology-based solutions and IT skills, laying the foundation for future social impact and digital access worldwide.

In the Asia Pacific region, Cisco’s Networking Academy has played a crucial role in building digital skills for over 26 years. With a focus on cybersecurity and other in-demand skills, the academy has trained over one million individuals in FY23 alone, including 83,238 students in the Philippines. Notably, 37% of all students trained are females, reflecting Cisco’s commitment to diversity and inclusion.
Digital skills
“In our rapidly evolving digital world, it is our duty to eliminate barriers to connectivity and digital skills,” said Zaza Nicart, managing director of Cisco Philippines. “Education is key to giving everyone a fair chance and preparing our youth to tackle critical issues like cybersecurity, AI, and sustainability. We are proud of our milestone in boosting the Philippines’ digital economy, but there’s more we can do to empower local communities and ensure equal opportunities through education and technology.”
Alongside this achievement, Cisco releases its annual Purpose Report, detailing progress on environmental sustainability, social impact, digital access, and diversity initiatives. The report highlights Cisco’s commitment to expanding digital access programs and partnerships worldwide, including efforts to strengthen Ukraine’s digital infrastructure in collaboration with USAID.
