DITO Telecommunity has partnered with ZTE Corp. to introduce 32T32R Massive MIMO technology in the Philippines. This move aims to address growing demand for better mobile connectivity and optimize network capacity, particularly in high-traffic areas.
“Through our partnership with ZTE, we’re not just addressing current network demands—we’re paving the way for a smarter, more connected future,” said Rodolfo Santiago, chief technology officer of DITO.
Launched in 2019, DITO is the Philippines’ third-largest telecom provider, serving over 13 million users across an 86% nationwide coverage area. As its user base grows, DITO has focused on enhancing both 4G and 5G services. After evaluating various technologies in 2024, the 32T32R configuration stood out for its cost efficiency and performance.
DITO and ZTE ran a pilot test in densely populated areas, achieving notable results: a 99% boost in spectrum efficiency, a 92% rise in average cell traffic, and a 75% increase in connected users.
“These results showcase the capability of Massive MIMO to improve connectivity for communities and businesses alike,” said Shi Bozhi, chief marketing officer of ZTE Philippines.
Modernization
Following the successful pilot, DITO and ZTE plan to roll out the 32T32R solution commercially. This expansion will enhance spectrum utilization, improve user experiences, and support DITO’s goal of providing affordable and reliable services.
“DITO is committed to providing cutting-edge technology that empowers Filipinos with fast, reliable, and accessible connectivity,” Santiago said.
Both companies aim to modernize the nation’s telecommunications infrastructure, leveraging advanced technology to meet the evolving connectivity needs of Filipinos.
