Trade and Industry Secretary Alfredo red Pascual emphasized the importance of digital capabilities in enhancing the Philippine workforce during the recent Labor and Trade Partnership Session with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE). 

The discussion, centered on the DOLE-DTI initiative on Enterprise Development and Livelihood Assistance, aimed to prioritize collaborative efforts in empowering workers.

“We are steering our workforce towards high-value tasks that enable them to climb the ladder of value creation,” Pascual said. 

He emphasized the importance of digital technology in fostering intellectual and creative skills, crucial for the workforce’s advancement.

The session delved into strategic initiatives to integrate digital training across various sectors, focusing on creating sustainable employment opportunities aligned with the Trabaho Para Sa Bayan Act.

Secretary Pascual also highlighted the DTI’s initiative to evolve Negosyo Centers into digital learning hubs. This transformation aims to equip Filipinos with the necessary skills to thrive in the global market, contributing significantly to the nation’s economic growth.

He stressed the need to adapt to technological advancements and harness digital platforms to innovate and create sustainable jobs for Filipinos. The partnership between DTI and DOLE, supported by the International Labor Organization (ILO), seeks to establish a robust employment framework centered on job creation, quality, and sustainability.

Key officials present at the session included DOLE Secretary Bienvenido Laguesma, ILO Country Director Khalid Hassan, and DTI Undersecretary for International Trade Policy Group Allan Gepty.
