Digital infrastructure company Equinix has opened its first data center in the Philippines as part of its expansion in the Asia-Pacific region. The facility aims to meet growing demand for digital services and support the increasing use of artificial intelligence (AI) among enterprises.

The new site follows Equinix’s recent expansions in India, Indonesia, and Malaysia. The company said it maintains consistency across its global network of more than 270 data centers by offering a vendor-neutral environment where customers can choose from a wide range of cloud and AI service providers.

“Our infrastructure can empower the Philippine contact center industry to move up the value chain, enabling workers to leverage AI as a tool to deliver higher-quality service and perform more complex, higher-order tasks,” said Cyrus Adaggra, president of Asia-Pacific, Equinix, during his opening remarks.

Adaggra said Equinix’s vendor-agnostic and carrier-neutral approach allows collaboration and innovation among enterprises, connecting them with thousands of customers worldwide, including more than 60 data centers across the Asia-Pacific region.

The Philippine facility houses more than 1,000 cabinets with space for further expansion.

“With these investments, both in new markets and in strengthening existing ones, we expect to bring nearly 3,000 cabinets online by 2026, reinforcing our commitment to powering the digital future of Asia,” Adaggra said.

Equinix’s global footprint covers 77 metropolitan areas in 36 countries. In Asia-Pacific, the company operates 64 data centers in 18 metros, including Australia, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Singapore.

The Philippine data center gives local organizations access to Equinix Fabric, including services such as Fabric Cloud Router and Equinix Internet Access. Equinix said that these services provide secure, high-speed connections to major network, cloud, and AI providers through a private network.

With direct access to hyperscalers and AI infrastructure partners, enterprises can build hybrid multicloud environments and adjust their connectivity as workloads evolve. Equinix’s three local high-performance data centers, MN1, MN2, and MN3, are designed to store and distribute latency-sensitive data and applications closer to end users.
