food delivery platform foodpanda Philippines is expanding digital payments by allowing customers to pay cash-on-delivery (COD) orders through QRPH-supported banks and e-wallets.

Called QR-on-Delivery, the feature allows customers complete payment only after their order arrives, addressing a common preference among Filipino consumers who still want to verify deliveries before paying.

Customers can scan a QR code shown by foodpanda riders using QRPH-enabled apps such as GCash and Maya. The option combines the familiarity of COD with the convenience of cashless payments.

“QR-on-Delivery allows us to bring digital payments closer to everyday transactions, particularly in moments where customers still prefer to pay upon receipt,” said Lhecks De Castro, director of finance of foodpanda Philippines. “By integrating QRPH into the delivery experience, we’re supporting the broader push toward a more cash-lite economy, making digital payments more practical and accessible in everyday use.”

This extends the use of QRPH, the national QR code standard backed by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), into food delivery transactions. BSP has been pushing for wider digital payment adoption as part of its target to make at least half of retail payments digital.

foodpanda said the feature also helps reduce cash handling for riders, cutting the need to prepare exact change and helping speed up deliveries.

The Philippines remains one of Southeast Asia’s fastest-growing digital payment markets, driven by the widespread use of e-wallets and mobile banking apps. However, COD continues to be a preferred option for many online shoppers, especially in food delivery and e-commerce.

By adding QRPH to COD transactions, foodpanda is giving customers more practical options for daily purchases without changing their buying habits.
