Garmin has launched the Descent G2 in the Philippines, a new dive computer built in a rugged, watch-style design. Aimed at divers of all levels, the Descent G2 combines underwater tools with health and fitness features for daily use.
“We designed the Descent G2 to support every stage of your diving journey,” said Dan Bartel, vice president of global consumer sales at Garmin. “It’s not just for underwater use — it helps monitor your health and readiness even before you dive.”
The Descent G2 features a 1.2-inch Amoled display for better readability, including underwater. It is made using recycled ocean-bound plastics and has a dive-rated case built to handle pressure up to 100 meters. The watch has a strong sapphire lens and leak-proof buttons for added durability.
Garmin also added personalization options. The Descent G2 comes in black, paloma, or shell pink and supports QuickFit bands for easy style changes.
Multiple dive modes and more features
The watch includes multiple dive modes — such as nitrox, trimix, and closed-circuit rebreather — plus freediving tools. A built-in compass helps with navigation, while “big numbers mode” displays critical data in large text, making it easier to read underwater.
For freedivers, the Descent G2 offers dynamic apnea tracking, apnea alerts, and variometer tools that give audible and haptic feedback based on depth and speed. The Garmin Dive app allows users to review their performance with charts and dive logs.
One of the key features is “dive readiness,” which analyzes sleep, stress, exercise, and jet lag to help users decide if they are in good condition to dive. A higher score may suggest better preparedness, while a lower one encourages caution.
Fitness gear
The Descent G2 also functions as a daily smartwatch. It tracks heart rate, sleep patterns, steps, and calories burned. Users can access dozens of sports modes, personalized workout suggestions, and health stats such as hydration, respiration, and Pulse Ox.
When connected to a smartphone, the watch provides text and call alerts, safety features like incident detection, and access to Garmin’s Connect IQ store for apps and watch faces.
The Descent G2 is now available for ₱45,490 on Garmin’s official website and online shops such as Kinetic, Lazada, and Shopee.
