Telco service provider Globe has constructed over 30 new cell sites in Cebu province in 2024, boosting the region’s connectivity as part of its digital transformation initiatives.
The new infrastructure enhances mobile and data services across Cebu, including the highly urbanized cities of Cebu, Lapu-Lapu, and Mandaue. The province, a major economic hub in Central Visayas, contributed ₱1.01 trillion to the region’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in 2023, accounting for 29.8% of the total, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority.
“Cebu has long been a powerhouse of economic activity in the Visayas, and robust connectivity is essential for sustained growth,” Patrick Gloria, VP for External Affairs at Globe, said in a media release. “By expanding Globe’s network in the province, we aim to enable communities and businesses to thrive in the digital economy.”
The strategic placement of new cell towers aims to provide faster, more reliable communication and improve access to services like education, healthcare, and financial platforms. Globe’s efforts align with Cebu’s development as a hub for commerce, manufacturing, and tourism, supported by its ports, international airport, and innovation ecosystem.
During the Sinulog celebrations, Globe’s enhanced network ensured seamless communication, aiding the tourism sector, a significant contributor to Cebu’s economy.
“These investments in Cebu’s connectivity are part of our commitment to making digital services accessible to more Filipinos. Better connections mean more opportunities for growth, innovation, and improved quality of life,” Gloria said.
