Globe reported a significant surge in blocking SIM cards associated with fraud and scams through its Stop Spam portal in 2023, marking a fourfold increase compared to the previous year. The portal also deactivated and blacklisted a total of 220,669 suspicious SIMs during the year.

In 2023, Globe blocked 7,521 of its own SIMs due to spam-related activities, a decrease from the 20,226 cases reported in 2022. The company blocked 213,148 SIMs from other mobile providers, a substantial rise from the 35,333 instances recorded in the preceding year.

“We are constantly evolving our strategies and technologies to stay ahead of threats and ensure the highest level of security and trust in our services,” said Anton Bonifacio, chief information security officer at Globe.

The Stop Spam portal offers customers a user-friendly platform to upload screenshots of unsolicited text messages and furnish essential details such as the sender’s number, the recipient’s number, and any suspicious links.

Globe further enhanced security as evidenced by its $20-million investment to boost its Security Operations Center, which operates 24/7 to filter out unwanted messages originating from both international and domestic sources.
