As one of the frontrunners in developing (artificial intelligence) AI-enabled tools, Google is making its AI courses available through the online learning platform Coursera and in partnership with the Department of Trade and Industry.

After the release of its study conducted by consulting firm Access Partnership, which saw that AI could bring P2.8 trillion ($50.7 billion) in economic benefits to the Philippines, Google ramped up the availability of these courses to equip and help the workforce upskill.

The initiative also includes partnerships with the Department of Information and Communications Technology. It ensures scholarships for the course are distributed to Filipino youth, jobseekers, micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), entrepreneurs, civil servants, and other key groups.

The Google AI Essentials course is a self-paced online program taught by AI experts at Google, requiring no previous experience with AI. The course aims to enhance productivity by providing hands-on experience with various AI tools in less than 10 hours. Learners will be trained to use AI for tasks such as brainstorming ideas, making informed decisions, speeding up daily work tasks, and writing effective prompts. Participants will also learn to use AI responsibly, mitigating biases and inaccuracies. Upon completion, they will receive a Google-issued skill badge to showcase their AI proficiency.

In addition to its educational initiatives, Google has made significant investments in digital infrastructure.

This concerted effort by Google and its partners is expected to play a pivotal role in transforming the Philippines’ economic landscape, leveraging AI to unlock human potential and drive substantial economic growth.
