Grab Philippines (Grab), a ride-hailing company, anticipates a 45% surge in demand for TNVS (Transportation Network Vehicle Service) as the holiday shopping season kicks into high gear. The company expects this surge to start at 20% during the first week of December and reach its peak by the third week.
“We ensure there are as many cars available as possible because that’s key to limiting surge,” said Ronald Roda, COO of Grab Philippines.
To reduce passenger waiting times, ensure drivers meet daily goals, and maintain top ratings, Grab is onboarding 4,000 new driver-partners and has enhanced its app to offer more options to passengers.

“While we expand our driver pool to pre-pandemic levels, we are taking proactive steps to ensure a balanced platform that prioritizes safety, reliability, and convenience, even during seasonal market fluctuations,” Roda said.
Options
Grab has reactivated its Grab Share services following the government’s announcement lifting COVID-19 restrictions. At present, this service is available in specific parts of Metro Manila.
Within the app, passengers booking certain services can now choose from alternative options at discounted rates if their initial service choice is unavailable. This strategy aims to reduce waiting times and ensure timely service.

To not only minimize waiting times but also alleviate the stress of securing a ride, Grab introduced Multi-Taxi Type (MTT) booking, which prioritizes Grab drivers nearby who are en route to drop off current passengers.
“MTT bookings may reduce allocation time significantly by 20 to 30%, as observed during the feature’s pilot runs,” Grab said.
In anticipation of the homecoming rush of Filipinos overseas, Grab established an airport fleet introduced a few months ago. This dedicated fleet of Grab cars is stationed within airports and can be booked via the GrabAirport feature within the app.
MOVE IT
As holiday traffic builds up with the approaching Christmas season, more passengers are opting for motorcycle rides. MOVE IT is ramping up efforts to meet the surge in demand this season.
The lag- and crash-free MOVE IT app boasts several safety features, including Share Your Ride, 24/7 Help Centre, Emergency Response, and Voice Over IP (VOIP) calling — exceeding industry tech and service standards. Additionally, with the Back-to-Back Booking feature, the MOVE IT Driver App allows rider-partners to accept new bookings even while servicing ongoing ones.
