Metrobank’s Travel Signature Visa and World Mastercard offer different mileage rates and foreign transaction fees for travelers booking hotels, paying online, or spending abroad.
In its year-end travel guidance, Metrobank encouraged cardholders to check which purchases qualify for rewards and what conditions apply to benefits such as airport lounge access and travel insurance.
The Travel Signature Visa earns one mile for every ₱30 spent across all categories. The World Mastercard earns one mile for every ₱17 spent on eligible foreign currency transactions, hotel stays, and online purchases.
The cards also differ in fees charged on eligible foreign currency transactions. Metrobank lists these at 1.68% for the Travel Signature Visa and 1.85% for the World Mastercard.
For cardholders, the comparison involves both the miles earned and the fees paid. Metrobank’s guidance emphasizes using rewards for expenses already included in a travel budget, rather than spending more to accumulate points.
Beyond miles, both cards provide eligible cardholders with unlimited access to select local airport lounges. World Mastercard cardholders also receive two complimentary global lounge visits each year through Mastercard Travel Pass.
Travel Signature Visa cardholders who charge their airfare to the card can receive complimentary travel insurance coverage of up to ₱25 million, subject to applicable terms and conditions.
These benefits have requirements that travelers need to review before booking. Local lounge access applies to select lounges, while the stated insurance benefit requires airfare to be charged to the Travel Signature Visa.
Metrobank’s guidance puts planned spending ahead of rewards: Set a travel budget first, then check which existing card benefits apply to flights, accommodation, and other purchases.
