Professional network LinkedIn’s latest research probed into the critical importance of talent development in a swiftly evolving job market shaped by artificial intelligence (AI).
By 2030, the landscape of job requirements is expected to shift dramatically, with a projected 68% change driven by the influence of AI. This transformation has prompted 91% of companies in the Asia Pacific (APAC) region to prioritize the enhancement of their workforce’s skills and abilities.
According to hiring managers in APAC, the top five skills deemed crucial in the AI era are problem-solving (35%), communication (27%), critical thinking (25%), AI expertise (19%), and IT & web skills (17%).

Previous LinkedIn research highlights the eagerness of Filipino professionals to embrace AI in the workplace, with 70% expressing a desire to learn more about it and 55% already utilizing generative AI in their roles. Employers are recognizing the significance of soft skills and adaptability, with 88% reporting changes in their prioritization of candidate skills due to the pervasive impact of AI.
Upskilling and reskilling
In Southeast Asia (SEA), LinkedIn’s latest Workplace Learning Report reveals that 95% of Learning & Development (L&D) professionals recognize the increasing competitiveness of human skills in the economy. Communication emerges as the most sought-after skill across all APAC countries. Additionally, 40% of APAC hiring managers emphasize an individual’s potential for growth and capacity to learn as pivotal factors in candidate evaluation.
To address the evolving demands of the job market, companies are investing in training programs (44%) and internal sessions focused on generative AI (43%). The emphasis on creating a culture of continuous learning is evident, with 91% of SEA L&D professionals aiming to demonstrate business value by facilitating skill acquisition for internal role transitions.
Internal mobility is gaining prominence as a retention strategy, with 48% of APAC leaders prioritizing career progression opportunities. Furthermore, 37% emphasize the importance of career growth for retaining top talent, while 49% believe promoting internal mobility is key to attracting talent. By investing in talent development and fostering internal mobility, APAC organizations can adapt and thrive amidst the disruptive forces of AI in the years to come.
