Fintech firm Maya has rolled out digital electricity bill payments for residential customers of the National Power Corp. (NAPOCOR) under its Small Power Utilities Group (SPUG), offering an electronic option for communities not connected to the main power grid.

SPUG customers will soon be able to pay their electricity bills through Maya, reducing the need for manual and over-the-counter payments that are still common in remote and missionary areas.

“Providing more accessible and efficient payment channels is an important part of improving service delivery, especially in remote and missionary areas,” said Jericho Jonas Nograles, president and CEO of NAPOCOR. “Digital payments help reduce manual processes and make it more convenient for households to settle their electricity bills.”

NAPOCOR, through SPUG, supplies electricity to geographically isolated and underserved communities nationwide. While power generation in these areas is decentralized, many households already have mobile connectivity, making digital payments a practical option.

The shift supports the government’s digitalization efforts and NAPOCOR’s move to streamline collections and simplify bill payments for customers outside major urban centers.

“This initiative reflects our commitment to making digital financial services work for everyday needs, including essential utilities,” said Shailesh Baidwan, group president of Maya. “By enabling digital bill payments for SPUG customers, we are helping extend the convenience and efficiency of digital finance to communities where payment options have traditionally been limited.”

Through SPUG, NAPOCOR operates power facilities in hundreds of communities across Luzon, the Visayas, and Mindanao, serving nearly one million households. Many of these areas have long relied on manual bill collection, highlighting the need for simpler and more accessible payment channels.
