Metropolitan Bank & Trust Company (Metrobank) and Metrobank Foundation Inc. (MBFI) announced the passing of Aniceto “Chito” M. Sobrepeña, former president of MBFI and a longtime leader in public service and corporate social responsibility.

Sobrepeña spent three decades leading the Metrobank Foundation, where he oversaw programs in education, health, the arts, livelihood, and recognition of excellence. Under his leadership, the foundation expanded initiatives aimed at creating opportunities and support for communities across the Philippines.

Prior to his work at MBFI, Sobrepeña held key roles in government, where he was recognized for his commitment to public service and community development. Colleagues and partners noted his approach to leadership combined professionalism with a sense of purpose and empathy.

“Chito Sobrepeña lived the Jesuit ideal of being a man for others, leading with both intellect and heart, and inspiring those around him to pursue excellence with purpose,” Metrobank and MBFI said in a statement.

The organizations extended their condolences to Sobrepeña’s family, friends, and colleagues, emphasizing their commitment to continue the programs and initiatives he led.

Sobrepeña is remembered for his dedication to service, his principled leadership, and his efforts to create lasting positive change in communities across the country.
