Global cyber security company NCC Group reaffirmed its dedication to nurturing cyber security talent in the Philippines, where it sees a growing demand for professionals. The firm’s recent report, Threat Pulse, revealed a 13.5% rise in global ransomware cases over the past year.
“The threats continue to grow each year,” said Kevin Brown, global COO, NCC Group. “Filling the talent gap, particularly in the Philippines, means rethinking how we develop professionals who can help organizations defend against these sophisticated attacks.”
Despite these challenges, NCC said the Philippines has made notable strides in improving cyber security. The United Nations’ Global Cyber Security Index shows the country earned a score of 93.49 this year, up from 77 points in 2020. This progress reflects the government’s efforts, including the adoption of the National Cyber Security Plan by the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT). The five-year plan, approved by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., aims to create a safe cyberspace for Filipinos, especially given the rise of digital transactions.
While NCC Group recognizes this progress, it also called for policies that consider emerging technologies like artificial intelligence.
“As governments introduce new cyber policies, the challenge remains in implementing them effectively without overwhelming organizations with complex regulations,” Brown noted.
Aside from helping global organizations navigate the evolving cyber landscape, NCC Group has been expanding its team in the Philippines. Since opening its Manila office in 2023, the firm now employs over 120 Filipino cyber security professionals.
“Our Philippine team has been key to making cyber security accessible and manageable for businesses worldwide,” Brown added.
