PLDT Inc. (PLDT) is pushing to ensure that all state universities in the Philippines have full internet connectivity by 2025. This is to align with the government’s digitalization goals.
Since 2022, PLDT, through its corporate unit PLDT Enterprise, has activated 1,000 Wi-Fi hotspots in 220 public universities across 60 provinces. These connections are important for students and educators, according to Menardo “Butch” Jimenez Jr., COO of PLDT. He emphasized the importance of sustaining and expanding internet access.
“Continued support is necessary to maintain this transformative initiative,” Jimenez said. “We are calling for renewed efforts to make digital education accessible in all state universities by 2025.”
In addition to working with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), PLDT is a founding member of the Private Sector Advisory Council’s (PSAC) Digital Infrastructure Sector. Through this collaboration, the company is helping lead efforts to connect underserved areas in the Philippines, starting with remote regions this year.
Beyond higher education, PLDT’s digital inclusion efforts extend to underserved communities through initiatives like School-in-a-Bag, benefiting over 116,000 students. The company also supports a learning program that improves student performance, especially in science and math, for over 1,000 public schools.
