PLDT Home brought its “Fiber Talks” series to Sorrel Residences in Sampaloc, Manila, to foster discussions on emotional wellness and intelligence. The session featured digital creator and mental health advocate Macoy Dubs, who shared insights on managing emotions and building healthy relationships.

Fiber Talks is PLDT Home’s community program designed to engage residents in conversations with mental health advocates and encourage stronger connections among neighbors.

In his talk, titled “Emotional Intelligence 101: Harnessing Your EQ Through Teenage Years,” Macoy discussed the importance of self-awareness, identifying stress triggers, and handling emotional challenges. He also offered #BeCyberSmart tips for creating safe and respectful online spaces.

“By promoting mental well-being and bringing these conversations into communities, we hope to help our customers build healthier relationships and navigate the digital world more safely and mindfully,” said Stephanie Orlino, head of Stakeholder Engagement at PLDT and Smart.

Macoy noted that emotional intelligence affects many aspects of life, including health, relationships, and social awareness. “It is important that we recognize how emotional intelligence affects our work performance, physical and mental health, relationships, and social intelligence,” he said.

He added that teenage years are a critical stage for developing emotional habits that often carry into adulthood.

“It’s the time when they figure out who they are and how they fit into the world. Developing skills like empathy, emotional labeling, and regulation can help a person manage stress, form stronger relationships, and achieve professional success later on,” he said.

Macoy reminded the audience that stress is part of daily life but can be managed through emotional intelligence.

Since the pandemic, PLDT and Smart have strengthened initiatives on mental health by hosting online and in-person sessions with youth groups and local communities.
