In collaboration, PLDT, Smart, and Adaptive Technology for Rehabilitation, Integration, and Empowerment of the Visually Impaired (ATRIEV) recently completed the second iteration of their Digital Business Basics Training (DBBT) in Mindanao.

Twenty-five entrepreneurs with disabilities from Upi, Maguindanao del Norte, successfully finished the intensive 10-day workshop, marking a significant stride in enabling inclusive community participation through technology.

“This training equips participants with valuable skills to initiate and strategize their businesses,” said Brian Aubrey Serrano, lead trainer at ATRIEV. “We introduce them to various online applications that facilitate product selling, not only in Upi but nationwide.”

DBBT, tailored for persons with disabilities, aims to bridge the digital gap by empowering entrepreneurs to conduct crucial business tasks with technological assistance. The curriculum includes essential aspects of digital business, emphasizing the use of Android apps for business operations, e-wallets such as Maya for financial transactions, innovative marketing approaches, and delivery apps to enhance understanding of logistics and customer service.

“As a small business owner, I’ve realized the immense potential for business growth through technology, thanks to this initiative by ATRIEV, PLDT, and Smart,” said Sharita Sulaiman, a visually impaired participant in the training program.

This collaboration with ATRIEV forms part of PLDT and Smart’s broader Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, Advocacy through Technology (IDEATe) program, aimed at fostering the meaningful engagement of marginalized sectors in the digital economy.
