We often equate affordability with something unattractive or unreliable. The realme P4 Lite challenges those stereotypes by delivering a smartphone that looks good, works well for everyday tasks, and lasts much longer than expected.
Appearance
The realme P4 Lite does not immediately look like an entry-level smartphone. Its clean design and large camera module give it a more polished appearance than its price suggests. It avoids looking overly flashy, which makes it suitable for anyone who simply wants a nice-looking phone without spending too much.
The phone is available in Titan Gray and Pulse Purple, which I got. Titan Gray has a more understated and professional look, while Pulse Purple adds color without appearing too loud.
Its flat sides make it easier to grip, although the 6.8-inch screen means this is still a fairly large phone, which I like. At 208 grams, it also has some weight to it, but believe me, it’s not too heavy though. That is understandable because realme managed to fit a 7,000mAh battery inside a body measuring only 8.38 millimeters thick.
The fingerprint sensor is built into the power button, where it is easy to reach. The phone also keeps a 3.5mm headphone jack, something that has disappeared from many more expensive models. A dedicated microSD card slot provides additional storage for photos, videos, and other files.
Another feature worth noting, but not always obvious, is its MIL-STD-810H shock-resistance certification. This does not make the phone indestructible, but it offers some reassurance against the bumps and minor accidents that happen during daily use, or as the everyday wear and tear we subject our phones.
Display
The realme P4 Lite has a large 6.8-inch LCD screen with a refresh rate of up to 120Hz. Why do we always note the refresh rate? Isn’t it frustrating when you scroll through your screens and it just stops? For the uninitiated, that’s what refresh rate means. It makes using your phone smoother.
The generous screen size also makes the phone just perfect for watching videos, browsing websites, reading documents, and playing games. I have a penchant for big screens, not tablet size screens, just big phone screens (no phablet, please, no). Text and icons are easy to see, while the screen provides plenty of space for typing and multitasking.
However, the display has an HD+ resolution rather than Full HD+. This means it is not as sharp as the panels found on more expensive phones. The difference can be noticeable when reading very small text or watching high-resolution videos, but it remains acceptable for its price category.
With brightness reaching up to 900 nits under certain conditions, the screen remains reasonably visible outdoors. It may still require some shade under harsh sunlight, but it should be bright enough for quick glances to check notifs.
Corning Gorilla Glass also provides an added layer of protection. A screen protector and the included protective case are still recommended, especially for users who plan to keep the phone for several years.
Performance
The realme P4 Lite is powered by the Unisoc T7250 processor and comes with 4GB of RAM. Those numbers may not excite people who follow smartphone specifications closely, but the phone is designed for basic, everyday use rather than demanding work.
It can comfortably handle the usual tasks of call and text, browsing, and even video streaming. Yes, that is the common misconception with Unisoc processors, that it’s not as reliable as the others. But hey, it delivers.
And yes, you can comfortably play casual games. Popular titles can run at modest graphics settings, but this is not a gaming phone for players who expect the highest frame rates or detailed graphics. Adjusting game settings can produce a smoother experience while reducing the workload on the processor.
The phone includes a large graphite cooling system to help manage heat during longer gaming sessions or extended video viewing. It cannot make an entry-level processor perform like a premium one, but it can help the phone maintain more consistent performance.
Storage choices include 64GB and 128GB. The 128GB model is the more practical option for buyers who install many apps or regularly take photos and videos. Fortunately, both versions support a microSD card, so users are not limited to the built-in capacity.
Camera
The realme P4 Lite keeps photography simple with an 8-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel front camera.
The rear camera is best used in good lighting. Daytime photos should be adequate for social media, schoolwork, quick product shots, documents, and everyday memories. The camera includes portrait and night modes, although expectations should remain realistic because of the basic hardware.
Details can soften when lighting becomes poor, while bright and dark areas in the same scene may be difficult to balance. Night mode can help brighten an image, but it cannot completely remove noise or recover details that the sensor did not capture.
The front camera can take video calls and selfies. It works but users who prioritizes selfies, content creation, or low-light photography will find stronger camera systems in more expensive phones.
Video recording reaches 1080p at 30 frames per second using the rear camera. That is just enough for simple clips and social media posts, provided there is enough light and the phone is held steadily.
The cameras are functional rather than exceptional. That is a reasonable compromise considering where realme placed most of the phone’s value: its screen, durability, and battery.
Audio
The realme P4 Lite’s speaker can become surprisingly loud, which is useful when watching videos or listening to calls without earphones. Higher volume helps in busy rooms, although sound quality can become less balanced when pushed to its limit.
For music and movies, headphones or an external speaker will still provide a fuller experience. The good news is that users can connect wireless devices through Bluetooth 5.2 or plug wired earphones directly into the 3.5mm audio jack. Budget-conscious buyers will not need an adapter or a new pair of wireless earbuds.
Battery
Battery life is the main selling point of the realme P4 Lite.
Its 7,000mAh battery is considerably larger than the 5,000mAh batteries commonly found in smartphones. It should comfortably last through a full day of calls, messaging, browsing, streaming, and social media. Lighter users may be able to stretch it into a second day before charging.
That endurance makes the phone especially useful for students, delivery riders, commuters, travelers, and people who spend long hours away from a power outlet. It can also work well as a backup phone during emergencies.
The trade-off is its 15W charging speed. Filling such a large battery will take time, so charging overnight is the most convenient approach. Faster charging would have completed the package, but longer battery life remains more valuable for its intended users.
To buy or not to buy
To buy. But let me be clear. This is designed for light users or for users who don’t demand too much from their phones, like me. While I review some phones, I’m at that stage that I’m good with anything that works. Sometimes, the simpler the specs, the better because I realized that I don’t use all of a phone’s flashy features and I consider that a waste.
The realme P4 Lite concentrates on the basics that matter: a presentable design, a large and smooth display, usable everyday performance, practical audio options, and excellent battery capacity.
Its cameras are basic and charging can be slow for the impatient. Still, these compromises are understandable at this price. For buyers who prioritize long battery life and dependable daily use, the realme P4 Lite offers plenty of value without pretending to be something it is not.
