E-commerce platform Shopee and the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL) hosted the Shopee IP Bootcamp 2025 to promote brand protection and trust in the growing e-commerce space.
“E-commerce will thrive when it is built on trust, and that begins with protecting intellectual property,” said Atty. Emerson Cuyo, supervising director for Enforcement at IPOPHL.
The hybrid event gathered over 50 participants, including representatives from the Department of Trade and Industry, IPOPHL, E-Commerce MOU signatory brands, and regulatory agencies. Sessions focused on the platform’s Notice and Takedown procedures, updates to the Brand IP Portal, and an open forum for discussing IP-related issues.
Shopee’s Brand IP Portal, launched in 2022, was highlighted as a key tool for rights holders. It allows verified users to manage and enforce their IP across the platform. The portal has been expanded and upgraded yearly to enhance user experience, with new features such as multi-language support and localized takedown policies.
Participants took part in hands-on demonstrations and learned best practices for filing cases, aimed at increasing success rates and making the takedown process more efficient.
“We believe in a brand-safe marketplace where rights holders, from local entrepreneurs to global labels, can confidently grow their businesses,” said Amanda Eng, head of Brand Protection at Shopee. “Our partnership with IPOPHL and other regulators enables us to deliver enforcement at speed and scale. As the ecosystem evolves, we remain committed to developing smarter, faster, and more brand-centric tools.”
The event underscored the importance of collaboration between e-commerce platforms, regulators, and brand owners in protecting intellectual property and supporting long-term digital growth.
