Shopee has warned the public about the increasing number of task and prize scams, where fraudsters deceive individuals through SMS and messaging apps. The e-commerce platform urged users to stay alert and protect their personal and financial information.
Task scams often involve scammers pretending to be from Shopee Mall or Shopee’s HR team, offering fake job opportunities. They assign simple tasks at first to build trust, then ask victims to send money with false promises of high earnings.
Prize scams involve messages with malicious links, claiming users have won a contest. When users click the link and enter personal details, scammers can steal information such as names, addresses, and bank details. This can lead to financial fraud or extortion.
Shopee reminded users that it never asks for money in exchange for jobs, and all employment opportunities are listed only on its official careers page. The company also does not send prize claim links through SMS or messaging platforms. Legitimate contest winners are announced only on Shopee’s app or verified pages.
To stay safe, Shopee advises users to avoid sharing personal details with unknown senders and to keep sensitive information, such as PINs and passwords, private. Transactions should always be done within the Shopee app for secure payments, order tracking, and buyer protection.
Shopee encourages users to report scams involving its name by submitting screenshots and details to the Shopee Cares Facebook page or contacting Shopee’s customer service through the app. More safety tips can be found on the “Shop Safe with Shopee” page or by searching “Shop Safe” in the Shopee app.
