Japanese corporation Sony unveils its Vision S electronic concept car at the Consumer Electronics Show 2020 (CES2020) highlighting the firm’s efforts in the area of mobility focusing on pursuing safety, reliability, comfort, and entertainment.
Sony, known mostly for its entertainment devices, said the “prototype incorporates Sony’s imaging and sensing technologies, as well as on-board software regulated using Sony’s AI (artificial intelligence), telecommunication and cloud technologies, in order to continuously update and evolve its features.”
“It’s not an exaggeration to say that mobile has been the mega-trend of the last decade. I believe the next mega-trend will be mobility,” said Kenichiro Yoshida, president and CEO, Sony Corp.
Vision S features a total of 33 sensors including CMOS image sensors and ToF sensors embedded within the vehicle. These are hoped to detect and recognize people and objects inside and outside the car and provide highly advanced driving support.

Sony leverages cloud artificial intelligence for the Vison S’ sensing system with the aim of making it “even more highly intelligent and functional. The firm explained in its product page that “the longer a person continues to use a car, the more the car will evolve…”
Vison S’ E/E system adopts a next-generation architecture that is designed “to support constant monitoring through connectivity that is enabled by a 5G network and over-the-air (OTA) system updates.” The vehicle system will constantly undergo reintegration and will be continually updated and optimized.
Sony’s “360 Reality Audio” provides a deep and immersive audio experience through speakers built into each seat to encapsulate passengers in sound. The front seats face a panoramic screen on which rich and diverse content can be enjoyed through an intuitive user interface. Sony will continue to combine its advanced technologies to deliver greater safety and reliability, while also striving to inspire new emotion through revolutionary in-car entertainment experiences.
