Data and AI governance firm Straits Interactive has partnered with the Analytics and AI Association of the Philippines (AAP) to introduce the National AI Prompt Design Challenge to the Philippines. The competition, which first took place in Singapore last year, aims to teach generative AI skills to Filipinos with no coding background.
Open to students and business professionals, the challenge focuses on prompt engineering, which powers generative AI tools to generate insights, automate tasks, and solve problems in fields like education, legal work, marketing, and training.
“This prompt competition is not targeted at data scientists and coders, but instead at people who hold the domain expertise to guide the Large Language Models (LLMs) to create robust AI assistants” said Kevin Shepherdson, CEO and founder of Straits Interactive.
Shepherdson highlighted that the goal of this competition is to harness the potential of Gen AI while ensuring that its development remains grounded in ethical principles and responsible practices.
“By engaging students, professionals, and innovators from diverse backgrounds, we aim to democratize AI and make its benefits accessible to everyone,” he said.

A previous winner from the Open Category of the Singapore challenge shared their experience.
“As a business owner, I was amazed at how quickly I could build practical in-house IT solutions that cut development and troubleshooting time. With the skills we learned from the bootcamp, I believe that everyone can do it if you just put in the time and effort,” said Ronald Soh, business development director, NSIT Training.
Participants will start with a three-hour boot camp on generative AI prompt design, ethical AI applications, and security considerations. The challenge runs from June 17-20, 2025, with registration open from March 28 – May 25, 2025. Venues include the Asian Institute of Management (AIM), the Angeles University Foundation (AUF), and Mapua Malayan Colleges Laguna.
