TikTok Philippines gathered civil society organizations, election watchdogs, and content creators for a series of discussions aimed at combating misinformation ahead of the country’s upcoming elections.
In partnership with the Commission on Elections (Comelec), the Legal Network for Truthful Elections (Lente), and the National Citizens’ Movement for Free Elections (Namfrel), TikTok organized closed-door meetings to review its policies and strengthen efforts to ensure election integrity. The sessions provided a platform for government agencies, civil society groups, and election monitors to exchange insights on protecting online spaces from false information.
“As misinformation continues to challenge elections, we are excited to build on our collaboration with TikTok, which began in 2022,” said Atty. Ona Caritos, executive director of Lente. “We look forward to deepening our partnership for the 2025 elections and beyond, promoting digital literacy and ensuring a space for Filipinos to access credible, verified information.”
Government representatives from Comelec, the Commission on Human Rights (CHR), the Philippine Information Agency, and the Bangsamoro Information Office attended the discussions. Election watchdogs Namfrel and the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) also participated.
“This partnership is a valuable tool for promoting transparency and educating Filipinos on their electoral rights and responsibilities,” said Angel Averia Jr., national chair, Namfrel. “By working together, we can combat misinformation and ensure a fair electoral process.”
Digital creators
TikTok also engaged with digital creators through a closed-door session, co-hosted with the Creator and Influencer Council of the Philippines (CICP). Around 40 content creators attended the event to learn about TikTok’s Community Guidelines and election-related policies. The session encouraged participation in the #ThinkTwice Digital Literacy Campaign, which promotes responsible content sharing.
“The CICP acknowledges the responsibility of creators and influencers in creating a safe and positive online space, especially as we approach the Philippine midterm elections,” said Jel Directo, president of the CICP. “We appreciate TikTok’s efforts to educate us and our stakeholders on their Community Guidelines and policies, and look forward to working together to promote transparency and uphold high ethical standards,”
“At TikTok, we encourage users to express themselves authentically and creatively in a safe and positive environment,” said Waskito Jati, manager of Trust and Safety Outreach and Partnerships at TikTok. “We are committed to maintaining a space for respectful expression and ensuring everyone can share their voice without fear of harm.”
