Toyota Motor Philippines Corp. (TMP), a multinational automotive company, has added two electrified vehicles to its local lineup as part of its multi-pathway strategy toward lower carbon emissions. The company introduced the ATIV Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) and confirmed the availability of its first Toyota-branded Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) in the country, the bZ4X.
“Toyota Motor Philippines fully supports the Philippine government’s carbon reduction goals, which aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 75% by 2030,” said Masando Hashimoto, president of TMP. “Today, Philippine customers can choose from four vehicle types, gasoline, diesel, hybrid electric, and battery electric, to be their mobility partner, according to their lifestyle and location.”
TMP said the additions are part of its approach of offering different powertrain options rather than relying on a single technology. The company said this method considers local road conditions, the current state of charging infrastructure, and how vehicles are used in different parts of the country.
This aligns with targets set by Toyota Motor Asia, announced in October 2025 during the Japan Mobility Show in Tokyo. The regional group aims for electrified vehicles to account for 30% of new vehicle sales in Southeast Asia by 2030 and plans to introduce 10 new electrified models in the region over the next three years.
TMP said the transport sector remains a significant source of greenhouse gas emissions in the Philippines. Increasing the use of electrified vehicles is viewed as one way to help manage emissions while meeting growing demand for mobility.
Hybrid electric vehicles continue to play a significant role in Toyota’s local strategy. TMP said HEVs are currently more practical for many Filipino drivers because they do not require external charging and are suitable for areas with limited charging facilities. The ATIV HEV aims to widen access to hybrid technology, with a starting price of ₱1.19 million for the top-of-the-line variant. TMP said the model can reach up to 31.3 kilometers per liter based on fuel consumption tests under UN Regulations No. 101.
For customers who have access to charging infrastructure, TMP is expanding into battery electric vehicles. The bZ4X, which produces zero tailpipe emissions, is set to be available in the Philippines starting December 2025. This marks the Toyota brand’s entry into the full-electric segment locally.
TMP said it has already installed charging stations at select Toyota and Lexus dealerships in Metro Manila and Metro Cebu. The company said it plans to expand this network to other key areas nationwide to support both Toyota and Lexus electric vehicle owners.
