Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) has unveiled the upgraded iteration of the Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV), the Toyota Corolla Cross, which was introduced in 2020.

“The Corolla Cross, the first strong hybrid crossover in the Philippines, has been a key to accelerating electrification in the Philippines,” Masando Hashimoto, president, TMP. “TMP pioneered hybrid in 2009, but it’s upon the Corolla Cross launch in 2020 when we started achieving 3-digit annual sales figures of xEVs.”

Hashimoto highlighted the role of the Corolla Cross in TMP’s journey towards achieving significant sales milestones in electrified vehicles (xEVs), with over 7,200 units sold last year alone.

As of February 2024, more than 4,000 electrified Corolla Cross vehicles are already traversing Philippine roads, reflecting a growing consumer interest in Toyota and Lexus electrified models.

Features

The new Corolla Cross boasts enhancements both in style and functionality. Sporting a revamped exterior design, including a mesh-like grille with hexagonal outlines and upgraded LED headlamps across select variants, the vehicle exudes a modern appeal. Interior improvements include LED interior lamps, a leather steering wheel, and the adoption of an electronic parking brake (EPB) for added convenience.

The Corolla Cross is equipped with advanced technology features, including a 12.3-inch fully digital multi-information display (MID) for the top-of-the-line variant, along with a 10-inch display audio system featuring wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

In terms of safety, the Corolla Cross offers Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) features in select variants, such as Pre-Collision System (PCS), Lane Tracing Assist (LTA), and Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, ensuring a secure driving experience for occupants.

Hybrid power

Under the hood, the new Corolla Cross is powered by a hybrid 4-cylinder engine with CVT transmission, delivering a balance of performance and fuel efficiency.

With prices starting at almost P1.5 million for the base variant, TMP aims to make the electrified lifestyle accessible to a wider audience, further solidifying its position as a leader in sustainable mobility solutions in the Philippines.

Available in three variants — the GR-S HEV, V HEV, and G HEV — the enhanced Corolla Cross offers consumers a compelling choice in the burgeoning HEV market, combining style, functionality, and environmental consciousness.
