The University of the Philippines (UP) will host “AI Horizons PH ’24” on Oct. 24 and 25 at its BGC campus in Taguig. This two-day event will bring together experts to discuss artificial intelligence (AI) and its potential to drive national development.

Coinciding with the recent Nobel Prize recognition of foundational AI research, the conference will highlight AI’s role in addressing key Philippine challenges. Topics will cover food security, agriculture, education, governance, materials, energy, health, and wellness.

UP President Atty. Angelo Jimenez emphasized the importance of AI for the country’s future, calling it a crucial investment. Dr. Gisela Concepcion, UP’s Special Adviser on Research and Innovation, noted that AI breakthroughs recognized by the Nobel Prizes align with the university’s goal of using AI for national development.

Speakers include government officials and sector experts. Sessions will explore how AI can enhance agriculture, healthcare, education, and more. Featured speakers include Education Secretary Sonny Angara, Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte, and Agriculture Undersecretary Allan Q. Umali.

The conference will also showcase AI-driven solutions such as drone technology for agriculture, AI in space technology, and AI applications in healthcare and traffic systems. According to conference chair Dr. Prospero Naval, Jr., the event aims to inspire a nationwide AI transformation, making the technology accessible across all sectors.
