Xiaomi has officially launched the YU7, its first electric SUV and second vehicle under its electric vehicle (EV) brand. The Xiaomi YU7 is built from scratch and is not simply a taller version of the SU7 sedan. Instead, the YU7 offers its own design and features, focusing on comfort, technology, and performance.
The company said the YU7 is designed for people who are confident, independent, and driven. While it follows the same design language as the SU7, the YU7 carries a unique look. It offers a larger cabin, stylish exterior, and several smart systems that improve safety and the overall driving experience.
The Xiaomi YU7 is a mid-to-large SUV with a length of nearly 5 meters and a 3-meter wheelbase. Its body design focuses on well-balanced proportions, with a wide stance and low height to match the style of high-performance SUVs. Xiaomi added a 3.11-square-meter clamshell aluminum hood, which it claims is the largest among mass-produced cars. The front trunk provides 141 liters of storage and supports up to eight ways of opening.
Its headlights also get a new look. Xiaomi replaced the “waterdrop” style from the SU7 with a hollow design that includes air vents to help with both cooling and lighting. The new setup offers wider and clearer nighttime visibility. At the back, the SUV features a redesigned taillight with sharp angles and red lighting for better visibility in low light.
Technology in motion
One new feature is the electric-flush door handle system. The handles remain hidden when not in use to improve aerodynamics and extend automatically when the user approaches with a key. The design adds to the car’s smooth shape while offering more convenience.
For better airflow, the YU7 uses 10 through-flow air channels and 19 vents. Xiaomi said this attention to detail helps improve driving range by up to 59 kilometers. The company measured the SUV’s drag coefficient at 0.245, which helps make the vehicle more energy-efficient.
The Xiaomi YU7 reflects the brand’s move into the SUV market while sticking to its focus on style, technology, and thoughtful design.
