Alipay+, the global wallet gateway service under Ant International, has introduced a smart glasses-embedded payment solution for international e-wallets, following its initial launch with Rokid in China.
In partnership with electronics firm Meizu, Alipay+ completed what it described as the world’s first real-world smart glasses-embedded e-wallet payment in Hong Kong. The transaction was made using Meizu’s StarV Snap smart glasses and AlipayHK, one of the city’s leading superapps.
The feature allows users to make payments through QR code scans or voice commands directly from their glasses, supported by Alipay+’s AI-driven voice interface, intent recognition, and voiceprint authentication. Alipay+ said it plans to roll out the feature to global partner e-wallets in 2025, aligned with its upgraded technology suite for smart glasses.
“The innovation in the payment scenario has enhanced the practicality and appeal of smart glasses and promoted the progress and development of the AR glasses industry,” said Peng Guo, general manager of the XR Division at Meizu. “We hope this function will bring more convenient experiences to users.”
Meizu first announced the offline AI glasses-enabled mobile payment function powered by Alipay+ in April. The solution combines Meizu’s optical display, noise reduction, and camera-based scanning technologies with Alipay+’s advanced payment SDK.
“By unlocking payment capabilities, smart glasses will rapidly transform into the next-gen personal device like the mobile phone,” said Jiangming Yang, chief innovation officer of Ant International.
Alipay+ noted that wallet partners can also use its growing set of customer engagement tools, which now include QR-based and card payments via NFC, as well as AI-driven features through its GenAI Cockpit platform.
At present, Alipay+ connects more than 1.7 billion user accounts across 36 e-wallets, QR schemes, and banking apps to 100 million merchants in over 70 markets.
