Research and consulting firm Gartner predicts that Everyday AI and the Digital Employee Experience (DEX) will achieve mainstream adoption within the next two years. These innovations, highlighted in Gartner’s Hype Cycle for Digital Workplace Applications, 2024, are expected to significantly transform the modern workplace.

Everyday AI is designed to reduce digital friction by assisting employees with tasks like writing, researching, and collaboration.

“(Everyday AI) is a core part of DEX, which is a concentrated effort to remove digital friction and improve workforce digital dexterity, which itself is one of the key factors that will drive organizational prosperity through 2030,” said Matt Cain, an analyst at Gartner.

In 2024, the focus on hybrid and remote work is waning, giving rise to the importance of Everyday AI. Positioned at the Peak of Inflated Expectations on Gartner’s Hype Cycle, this technology is drawing significant interest for its potential to revolutionize work processes.

“Everyday AI supports a new way of working, where intelligent software enhances the speed, comprehensiveness, and confidence of employee output,” said Adam Preset, an analyst at Gartner.

Tools for employees

For technology vendors, Everyday AI offers a promising path to boost productivity, going beyond traditional software updates. It provides tools that help employees find and synthesize information, answer complex questions, and create work artifacts more efficiently. Preset also pointed to the future potential of Everyday AI, which could evolve from basic functions like summarizing communications to drafting reports with minimal user input.

At the same time, the importance of DEX is growing as employees increasingly rely on digital tools. Organizations are encouraged to develop strategies to enhance DEX, crucial for attracting and retaining talent, improving engagement, and maximizing effort.

Despite its promise, DEX currently sits in the Trough of Disillusionment on Gartner’s Hype Cycle, indicating that initial implementations have fallen short of expectations. To enhance DEX’s relevance, business leaders are urged to collaborate across IT and non-IT sectors, fostering an environment that supports new working methods.
