Globe Telecom officially announced a significant leadership change as part of its strategic plans for next year. Effective January 1, 2025, Carl Raymond R. Cruz will step into the role of deputy CEO, reporting directly to Ernest Cu, president and CEO of Globe.
Globe said this leadership change is a step toward preparing Cruz to take on the position of CEO during the company’s annual stockholders meeting in April 2025.
“We welcome Carl to Globe. He has a solid track record as a strategic and transformational business leader who delivers business growth,” said Cu.
Until April 2025, Cu will remain in his current role, while Cruz will manage the day-to-day operations of the company.
“I will remain focused on guiding our corporate strategy, ensuring we advance the broader growth agenda while Carl will assume the responsibilities of overseeing the day-to-day operations and take on an essential role to accelerate our momentum, enhance the execution of key strategic priorities, and further strengthen our leadership team,” Cu said, suggesting that he would remain with the company.
Cruz, who brings a wealth of experience from his leadership roles in telecommunications and consumer goods, expressed his eagerness to contribute to Globe’s future.
“I am very honored to be given the opportunity to be part of the Globe organization. I look forward to working alongside Ernest and Globe’s talented team to drive growth, elevate customer experience, and shape the future of the telco industry,” Cruz said.
Before joining Globe, Cruz was the CEO and managing director of Airtel Nigeria, where he led significant growth despite economic challenges. He also held leadership positions at Unilever, both in the Philippines and internationally.
Cu is expected to retain his role as chair of 917Ventures, Mynt (the holding company of GCash), Kickstart Ventures, and STT GDC Philippines after the leadership transition.
