Grab Philippines is strengthening its capacity-building program to address the concerns of female partner drivers. This initiative is part of Grab’s broader social upliftment campaign, GrabAsenso.

Research conducted by Grab revealed that many women hesitate to pursue careers in transportation due to preconceived notions about the suitability of driving for women and a lack of confidence in handling challenging situations. In response, Grab has collaborated with organizations like TESDA, MMDA, PRC, and the Philippine Commission for Women (PCW) to develop a comprehensive program tailored to female drivers’ needs.

A recent highlight of this initiative was the Safe Spaces Training conducted in partnership with PCW on March 21, 2024. The training session, led by PCW speaker Danielle Alexandria Anteola, focused on the Safe Spaces Act and ways to create harassment-free environments.

“Every Filipino wanting to better their life should be able to do so without doubts about their safety, skills, or even fears of gender-based discrimination,” said CJ Lacsican, head of Operations, Grab Philippines. “These are barriers that we relentlessly try to break down at Grab, for every female driver wishing to join our platform.”

App safety features

In addition to capacity-building initiatives, Grab has implemented several technological features to enhance safety for women driver-partners. These include the Women Passengers Preferred Toggle, Emergency Assistance Button, Trip Monitoring, and Share Live Location, to provide a secure and worry-free experience for drivers and passengers.

Grab has developed e-learning content through Grab Academy, enabling women driver-partners to access courses on passenger handling, road safety, and vehicle maintenance at their convenience.

Through these concerted efforts, Grab Philippines aims to foster a more inclusive and supportive environment for women in the transportation sector, empowering them to thrive behind the wheel.
