Technology companies IBM and SAP SE unveiled plans to release RISE with SAP on IBM Power Virtual Server, a service designed to streamline the shift of IBM Power customers’ enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems to the cloud.

RISE with SAP provides a step-by-step journey, offering outcome-focused services, cloud ERP, and platforms to help organizations redesign their operations. This new hyperscaler solution from SAP reduces the risk of migration and promises to complete SAP S/4HANA Cloud transitions within 90 days.

Using IBM Power Virtual Server, the cloud-based version of IBM’s Power platform, customers can move their SAP ERP systems to the cloud faster. Known for its security and reliability, IBM Power servers have been ranked among the most available SAP-certified infrastructures, helping minimize disruptions during migration.

“IBM has worked hand-in-hand with SAP to provide a seamless and fast migration path for customers that rely on the IBM Power platform for their SAP workloads and applications,” said Rob Thomas, SVP, Software, and chief commercial officer at IBM. “This new capability helps reduce the complexity of moving to the cloud and accelerates impact, benefits we experienced firsthand in our own modernization journey using RISE with SAP.”

IBM recently showed its expertise in a large-scale SAP modernization project. The company migrated its quote-to-cash and record-to-report processes to RISE with SAP on IBM Power Virtual Server. This project affected 150,000 users across 175 countries, reduced infrastructure costs by 30%, and increased process automation within 18 months. IBM Consulting provided the technical and application management expertise for the transformation.

“SAP is helping organizations run their best through cloud-based enterprise applications embedded with the power of SAP Business AI,” said Thomas Saueressig, a member of the SAP Executive Board. “This announcement marks another milestone in SAP’s long-term partnership with IBM, offering joint customers a clear path to the cloud designed for faster time-to-value and increased flexibility.”

RISE with SAP on IBM Power Virtual Server is expected to launch in the second quarter of 2025. IBM plans to support customers with a tailored investment program and a comprehensive suite of migration tools and services.
