According to the online job platform Jobstreet by SEEK’s Employee Job Happiness Index 2024, 85% of Filipino workers reported feeling happy or neutral about their jobs, a significant increase from 68% prior to the pandemic. The Jobstreet study surveyed over 900 employees across various industries nationwide.
The results revealed an overall Happiness Index Score of 4.52 out of 7, indicating that most respondents felt satisfied with their current work situations. Factors contributing to this satisfaction include work mobility, work-life balance, and an inclusive work environment.
“Our survey shows that Filipino candidates nowadays weigh multiple factors in determining their happiness and satisfaction with their jobs,” said Dannah Majarocon, managing director of Jobstreet by SEEK in the Philippines.
Workers who are fully remote reported the highest satisfaction levels, scoring 4.82 out of 7. They also noted an impressive work-life balance score of 4.92, indicating the positive impact of remote work on job satisfaction. As the number of remote job opportunities increases, it appears to be improving overall satisfaction among workers.
Least satisfied
Employees in the National Capital Region (NCR) reported lower satisfaction scores, averaging 4.46. This lower score can be attributed to high traffic congestion and stressful commutes in the area. Workers in Mindanao reported higher satisfaction, scoring an average of 4.59.
When comparing satisfaction levels across generations, Gen Z employees, aged 23 to 27, were the least satisfied, scoring 4.28. This may indicate differing views on work culture and life balance between younger and older employees. Interestingly, those who are married or in relationships reported greater satisfaction, scoring 4.60, compared to single employees, who scored 4.46.
The survey concluded that Filipino workers tend to feel happier when they have suitable work arrangements and opportunities for advancement. Career development and training opportunities were identified as key contributors to job satisfaction, alongside salary.
