LG Electronics (LG) has once again been lauded for its commitment to sustainability and eco-conscious practices. The latest accolades come in the form of certifications from esteemed organizations, marking the fourth consecutive year of recognition for LG’s Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) initiatives.
LG’s 2024 OLED evo TVs have clinched the Reducing CO2 and Measured CO2 certifications from the Carbon Trust, along with the Environmentally Evaluated Mark from Société Générale de Surveillance SA (SGS). These certifications underscore LG’s dedication to reducing carbon emissions and promoting environmentally responsible practices. Also, LG’s OLED TVs have secured their second successive Recycled Content certification, highlighting the company’s focus on incorporating recycled materials into its products.
The Carbon Trust evaluates the environmental impact of products throughout their lifecycle, while SGS certification emphasizes resource efficiency and the absence of hazardous substances. Intertek measures the percentage of recycled materials used, encouraging responsible consumption practices across industries.

LG’s OLED TVs excel in sustainability evaluations because of their self-lit nature, eliminating the need for a backlight and resulting in a simpler structure with fewer components. For example, the 65-inch OLED evo utilizes ultra-light composite fiber, reducing plastic usage by 40% compared to LCD TVs of similar size.
Environmental impact
“LG OLED TVs lead the market as the ultimate choice for premium viewing experiences, while also going beyond to set the bar for ESG standards,” said Baik Seon-pill, leader of the LG Home Entertainment Company’s Product Planning Division. “LG will remain devoted to continuing efforts toward creating a better planet for all.”
The environmental impact of LG’s OLED TVs has an estimated reduction of 45,000 tons of plastic usage and 234,000 tons of carbon emissions annually compared to LCD TVs. Recycled plastics constitute 20% of the plastic used in all LG TVs, amounting to approximately 4,000 tons of recycled waste plastic per year.
LG’s ESG initiatives extend beyond environmental activities, garnering praise from both domestic and international organizations. The company’s inclusion in the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index for 12 consecutive years reflects its long-term commitment to economic, environmental, social, and governance practices.
