Mapúa University has introduced new microcredential programs to help Filipino workers develop skills needed for the fourth industrial revolution (4IR).
Microcredentials are short courses that allow professionals to update their skills and earn digital badges or certificates they can show to employers. These quick learning programs have become important as technology and industry demands continue to change the job market.
Engr. Rosette Eira Camus, Mapúa director of the Innovation and Development Office for Career Advancement and Lifelong Learning (idCALL), explained that upskilling and reskilling will become critical in the next five years as technological advancements continue to reshape the workforce. It will become integral for individuals to stay relevant and competitive in their careers.
Keeping skills relevant
According to the World Economic Forum’s Future of Jobs Report 2025, new technologies, the shift toward a greener economy, and changes in population trends could create 170 million jobs over the next five years. However, the report also said that 39% of the skills needed for jobs today could change by 2030.
This means that workers must continuously update what they know to stay competitive.
“Our programs are designed to be flexible and accessible so that professionals can easily upskill or reskill,” Camus said.
Mapúa’s microcredential programs are available online, face-to-face, or through hybrid learning. Students can choose from different academies offering courses in project management, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, data science, language, digital transformation, and more.
New programs and affordable options
In July, Mapúa will launch a postgraduate certificate program in cybersecurity, designed with EC-Council, a global cybersecurity organization.
The courses are open not only to working professionals but also to current Mapúa students. Through the Curriculum Integrated Programs (CIP), students can earn certifications while completing their degrees. Specialization tracks in areas such as Cisco networking and workplace safety are also available.
Training programs are available at different levels — beginner, intermediate, and advanced. Course fees range from ₱6,000 to ₱90,000, depending on the program and certification level, with most courses priced between ₱15,000 and ₱30,000.
From April to May 31, 2025, Mapúa will offer a special course titled “Introduction to Generative AI.” The course is open to educators, students, professionals, or anyone interested in learning about artificial intelligence. Topics will include the basics of Generative AI, key AI models like Large Language Models (LLMs), practical uses across industries, and responsible AI practices.
