Travelers passing through Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) will be able to use new automated immigration e‑gates in Terminals 1 and 3 starting this December. The first set of e‑gates will go live before the end of the year, with all gates expected to be operational by early 2026.

The e‑gates are powered by Amadeus, a global company that provides technology for airports, airlines, and travel services, and operated by the Bureau of Immigration. They use passport scanning and facial recognition to check travelers’ identities automatically, so passengers can move through immigration faster without waiting for a manual check.

The project is funded by the New Ninoy Aquino International Airport Infrastructure Corp. (NNIC), which manages NAIA, and is coordinated with the Bureau of Immigration. The e‑gates will work alongside other new systems at the airport, including biometric check-in, pre-security screening, and boarding systems.

NAIA handles over 50 million passengers a year, more than it was originally built for. Airport officials say the new e‑gates will help ease long lines, especially during busy travel periods, and make the airport experience smoother for everyone.

Once all e‑gates are running, travelers can move more quickly from check-in to boarding.

Airport officials said the e‑gates follow a global trend in airport technology, combining faster passenger processing with secure identity checks. The system will be closely monitored during the initial rollout to make sure it works efficiently before it is expanded to all international flights.
