More than 8,000 farmers across the Philippines have gained access to digital financial tools and training through a program led by fintech firm GCash and the Philippine Crop Insurance Corp. (PCIC).

The initiative introduced a nationwide caravan that provided digital financial literacy sessions in farming communities. It aimed to help farmers learn how to use mobile platforms for insurance claims, payments, and financial management, areas where many still rely on cash or cheque-based systems.

“We extend our sincere gratitude to GCash for their commitment to promote financial inclusion even in our rural communities,” said Israel Dela Cruz, business development and marketing manager of PCIC. “Their dedicated efforts to educate our farmers are instrumental in ensuring that vital financial services reach those who need them most.”

As part of the project, farmers can now receive their insurance claims directly through the GCash app using its Funds Disbursement Service. This cuts down the waiting time usually tied to cheque processing and allows quicker access to funds.

The caravan also focused on financial literacy, with sessions held in provinces such as Camarines Norte, Pampanga, Bulacan, Cagayan, Nueva Ecija, Negros Occidental, Leyte, Iloilo, Aklan, Occidental Mindoro, Pangasinan, Agusan del Sur, Batangas, Quezon, Negros Oriental, and Camarines Sur.

Farmers were taught how to use mobile wallets, manage their resources, and apply digital tools for saving, budgeting, small loans, and purchases.

“Our financial literacy caravan educates and creates awareness among farmers, empowering them to make informed financial decisions, manage their resources better, and build resilience in the face of challenges,” said Alda Lou Cabrera, manager for Public Sector National Accounts of GCash.
