PLDT Inc. (PLDT) and its wireless unit Smart Communications Inc. (Smart) are distributing over 473,000 free SIM cards as part of the government’s ₱5-billion “JuanSIM ng Bayan” initiative. The program aims to connect underserved communities across 510 remote locations.

The government plans to distribute a total of 4.2 million SIM cards, each preloaded with 25GB of data, in partnership with major network providers. This initiative is expected to benefit around seven million Filipinos, focusing on schools and government offices.

“We’re proud to be part of this new initiative, which aligns with our company and our Chairman’s vision of improving digital access for all Filipinos. We believe there should be no Filipino left offline,” said Butch Jimenez, COO of PLDT.

“A SIM card can open doors — to learning, to livelihood, to connectivity, and to a better future,” said Anastacio Martirez, COO of Smart. “This initiative reflects our commitment to making technology accessible to every Filipino, and to make every Filipino thrive in a digital world no matter where they are.”

Since 2022, PLDT and Smart have set up 1,000 Wi-Fi hotspots in 220 public higher education institutions across 60 provinces. The companies have also supported younger students through the School-in-a-Bag program, benefiting over 116,000 learners.

PLDT and Smart have promoted the CVIF-Dynamic Learning Program (CVIF-DLP) for more than a decade, helping improve STEM education in public schools, alternative learning systems, and disaster-affected areas.
